We first met in 1989 in a very questionable “self-help” group, the kind where you think you’ve signed up for therapy, but it turns out to be a master class in being manipulated. Julia later crafted her own experiences, including her time as a stripper in that world, into The Jewels of January, a semi-autobiographical romcom about a woman who doesn’t realize she’s in a cult. Those years left their mark on both of us, and when our paths crossed again decades later, we quickly picked up where we’d left off.
By the time Julia was publishing her second book, she was visiting with Niki, who had a front-row seat to seeing just how complicated the publishing process can be. Over coffee, Niki asked the simple question that changed everything: “Couldn’t this be easier?” That spark became the seed of a bigger vision, creating resources that take the overwhelm out of writing and publishing.
With years of business experience on one side and firsthand author perspective on the other, we bring both practicality and lived creative insight to what we’re building. We share the vision, the work, and plenty of laughter along the way. And who knows? Maybe one day Niki’s own book will be on the shelf, made easier (and definitely more fun) by the same encouragement and support we’re working to share with other writers.
